The Joule A
revitalized, Neo-gothic landmark in the heart of downtown Dallas, The Joule is a cultural hub, dining and retail destination, and neighborhood gathering place—all wrapped in a luxury 160-room boutique hotel. A once dilapidated bank building, the fully restored hotel artfully integrates historic preservation with contemporary design. In a thriving urban setting, The Joule is an oasis for design lovers, art admirers, and appreciators of the uncommon.
Built in the 1920s, the landmark building at 1530 Main Street was originally the Dallas National Bank. It dominated the downtown skyline during a thriving era of Dallas banking and West Texas oil booms. Downtown Dallas flourished through the '80s, but as the 20th century drew to a close, it was a shadow of its former glory.
A decade of development deals and massive renovations transformed the then-vacant bank building into a Forbes four-star boutique hotel. Aptly named after the international unit of energy, The Joule brought a charge to downtown Dallas when it opened in 2008.
Through a series of further renovations and expansions as adjacent properties became available, The Joule has become a forerunner in the renaissance of downtown Dallas. Whether you're a Lone Star local or a visitor from the furthest corners, we can't wait to welcome you to The Joule. Stop by for an espresso, check-in for a spa day, or book a suite for your next sabbatical. For however long you're here, you're part of our inner circle.
Award-Winning Culinary Experiences
Hotel or a dining destination? We're little of both actually. From early morning French roast to afternoon aperitivo to late-night champagne toasts, you can spend the entire day tasting your way around The Joule.
Open daily, our modern Texas brasserie CBD Provisions, celebrates the natural bounty and culinary traditions of its region with a commitment to the finest ingredients and southern hospitality. Try the famous Berkshire pig head carnitas for lunch and for dinner head to Sassetta for inviting Italian cuisine that centers on a seasonal menu of house-made pastas, perfectly blistered pizzas, regional wines, and more.
When you're ready for a nightcap, follow the lightning and descend a flight of stairs to be transported to another world in our subterranean cocktail bar, Midnight Rambler. Cheers to surprises!
A Museum-Worthy Collection
Stanchions? You won't find them here. We believe that art is best when shared, so prized pieces from our proprietor Tim Headington's art collection brighten public spaces throughout The Joule.
The Joule champions the future while honoring the past. You won't find a better example of this than the mid-century glass mosaics that were rescued, restored, and now hold a prominent space in the hotel art collection alongside contemporary artwork by Andy Warhol, Tony Cragg, Roger Hiorns, Tony Tassett, and Ellsworth Kelly.
Tony Tasset's larger-than-life optic sculpture, Eye, has become one of the most iconic photo ops on Main Street. There's fact and a whole lot of fiction about its origins.
A New State of Mind
When it's time to escape from the bustle of downtown, The Joule provides world-class ways to relax and restore.
Recognized as a Forbes four-star spa and rated as the #1 spa in Texas by Spas of America, The Spa at The Joule is a subterranean oasis with a holistic approach to wellness. Custom facials, holistic body rituals, and restorative massages are among the most sought-after treatments.
Perhaps the most iconic feature of The Joule, our unique 8-foot cantilevered pool gives guests the sensation of swimming out beyond the hotel's edge. Equally voyeuristic for those swimming or those standing on the street below, it gives "hanging out by the pool" a whole new meaning. Come for the views, stay for frozen margaritas at the pool's full bar.
