HHM HOTELS “LIGHT IT UP BLUE” AGAIN FOR AUTISM AWARENESS MONTH
HHM Hotels Raise $130,000 in 2017 for Autism Speaks
(Philadelphia) – July 27th, 2017 – For the fourth consecutive year, HHM partnered with Autism Speaks to launch a month-long fund and awareness-raising campaign for the month of April. Each of the HHM’s 115 nationwide properties joined other landmark buildings across the world – including The Great Pyramids of Giza, Eiffel Tower, Empire State Building, Sydney Opera House and more – to literally “Light it up Blue” with indoor and outdoor illuminations. The company raised $130,000 this year, a $26,000 increase from the 2016 campaign.
“We are excited to celebrate our best year yet in supporting such an impactful cause,” says HHM CEO Naveen Kakarla. “Our growing partnership with Autism Speaks reflects our values of making people our top priority and serving our community. We are proud to build upon this partnership every year and anticipate creating future campaigns as successful as this one.”
Each of HHM’s hotels boasted a variety of fund and awareness-raising promotions, activities and events. Additional programs to the “Light it up Blue” initiative included front desk donation collection, awareness increasing uniform updates (including blue outfit days and puzzle-piece pins), blue cocktail and dish offerings, special events and more.
The Rittenhouse, one of HHM’s landmark properties and Philadelphia’s most prestigious hotel, teamed up with jewelry brand Lagos to create a caviar-based promotion to raise funds for autism research. Throughout the month of April, guests were offered “The Caviar Experience” package, which included The Rittenhouse private-label caviar with traditional accompaniments, a bottle of champagne, and a Lagos Black Caviar enamel beaded bracelet with pavé diamonds set in sterling silver with 18k gold accents.
Luxury, Boston waterfront property The Envoy Hotel hosted a deluxe rooftop celebration along with The Boxer Boston and other HHM hotels in the Boston region. The outdoor heaters glowed blue and the bar served a signature blue cocktail to “Light it up Blue”. Over 100 attendees were treated to a live musical performance, a raffle, and a silent auction featuring coveted items such as Red Sox tickets. Stunning views of the Boston harbor and a moving speech about living with Autism A speaker sourced by the local chapter of Autism Speaks engaged the crowd with his speech on living with Autism. Admission granted exclusive access to The Envoy’s acclaimed Lookout Rooftop and Bar, boasting stunning views of the harbor – all proceeds were donated to Autism Speaks.
In central Pennsylvania, our leadership team coordinated the first annual Blues and Brews Cruise. Hersha associates and hotel guests enjoyed Appalachian Brewery’s best summer brews while listening to live blues from the Erica Lynn Everest band. Harrisburg Riverboat association donated the floating venue for this event, The Pride of the Susquehanna – an authentic paddle wheeler built by the community of Harrisburg.
Every hotel in the portfolio also encouraged guests to purchase raffle tickets to win an HHM Blues Traveler Experience. From an unparalleled, week-long California Coast package (including luxury accommodations, a rental car, guided wine tours and other unique experiences) to a celebrity-style weekend in the coveted Tribeca neighborhood of New York City – entrants are eligible to win an exciting vacation from coast to coast, simply by purchasing a $5 raffle ticket at any HHM property front desk.
“I am amazed, humbled and inspired to be part of a team so committed to giving back,” said Robert Arigo, leader of this year’s campaign and HHM’s senior director of operations. “The energy from the properties’ increased involvement in this partnership has created such a caring, community-based environment. We are already looking forward to plans for next year’s Autism Awareness campaign.”
