A Refreshed Stay At Hotel Milo Santa Barbara
The oceanfront Santa Barbara hotel reemerges with a “refreshed” identity and fall programming to celebrate
SANTA BARBARA, CA – (September 13, 2016) – A cold towel at check-in, afresh organic juice, a chair massage and a local white sangria— these ‘refreshing’ touch points are all a part of a new campaign launching this September to celebrate the refreshed guestrooms at Hotel Milo Santa Barbara.
The 122-room oceanfront Santa Barbara property went under new ownership and management in 2014, when it adopted a new name as a nod to Santa Barbara history. Renamed after Milo Potter, the city’s first true hotelier, pivotal to the development of Santa Barbara as a city, it was then that the hotel began its commitment to relating to the local community and continues today to make these connections, most recently through the design aesthetic of the hotel.
“In true Santa Barbara fashion, the newly refreshed guestrooms are cool, calm and collected. This innately Santa Barbara design really completes the hotel’s transformation since its introduction into the Independent Collection, a collection of lifestyle hotels with strong ties to their neighborhoods and locales,” said Barry Dorsey, general manager of Hotel Milo Santa Barbara.
With the redesign, the guestrooms were given a signature blue and white palette, reflecting the brilliance of the ocean and sky, and serving as subtle reference to the Mediterranean, which Santa Barbara is so often compared to. The furniture in the guestroom features materials such as chinoiserie, rattan, wicker, and bamboo, hinting at the colonial origins of the city.
On the guestroom walls, vibrant art in jewel tones is inspired by Dutch master paintings and the artwork consists of still lives of flora and fauna as well as zoo animals depicted with modern objects, such as flamingos with telephones. The artwork sets a whimsical tone while also giving a nod to the hotel’s history. In 1903, just two years after his arrival in what is now Santa Barbara, Milo Potter opened Potter Hotel in the very same spot where Hotel Milo Santa Barbara now sits. The original Potter Hotel was a large beachside resort that attracted visitors from all over and even had its own zoo on the grounds.
The hotel’s “refreshed” campaign, which launches today and continues until the end of October, includes several elements. In addition to having cold towels available for all guests all day long – the perfect way to refresh after travelling or enjoying the California sun—the hotel is also offering a treat for the hotel’s furry guests (the hotel is pet-friendly), any arriving pup will receive a Jessie’s Doggie Beer Biscuit as part of the hotel’s “Pamper Your Pup” program.
On a weekly basis, Hotel Milo Santa Barbara will offer the following to guests (each week until October 31, 2016):

Since last March, Hotel Milo has hosted a regular series called Milo Uncorked, which celebrates Santa Barbara’s finest product: wine. Available to both locals and guests, Milo Uncorked is held in the Hotel Milo lobby and courtyard, overlooking the Pacific Ocean, from 4 to 6 PM on select Fridays. For the series, Hotel Milo has partnered with some of Santa Barbara County’s premier wineries to exhibit the richness of wine in the region. Each session features a unique local winery, giving attendees a chance to sample the diversity of Santa Barbara wine, while they become sommeliers-in-training, learning about tasting notes, wine-making techniques and vineyard history from winery staff.
“When we became Hotel Milo two years ago, we promised to bring personality and charm to the hotel experience and we also sought to strengthen our ties to Santa Barbara.Between our ‘refreshed’ campaign and Milo Uncorked that has really come to fruition,” continued Dorsey. “There is a lot to celebrate at Hotel Milo this fall and we’re thrilled to have so many great opportunities to do that.”
